The Colors of the Soul: In Black and White

Hello everyone, I’m Viki Farkas, photographer. If you know me even a little, or if you’ve browsed my website, you know that my work is my passion. But there is one style that, for me, is more than just photography: it is a kind of confession. That is fine art black and white portraiture.

Have you ever wondered what happens when we strip away the colors from an image? Many might think that by doing so, we lose a part of reality. I believe exactly the opposite: that is precisely how we arrive at the essence of things.

When Light and Shadow Tell the Story

For me, black and white photography isn't about the absence of color; it’s about the drama of forms, textures, lights, and shadows. When we turn off the multicolored noise of the world, we suddenly hear the silence. We notice the honesty of a smile, the depth of a gaze, the subtle movement of a hand, or the path of a teardrop rolling down a face.

There’s no "science fiction" here. The essence of the technique is painting with light. We allow the light to gently trace the face, highlighting character, while the shadows add depth and mystery to the image. The result is a timeless, classic portrait that isn't about the trendy color of your clothes or a vibrant background—it’s about you. Just You. Browsing through my portraits, you will see that every image is a standalone story where the protagonist isn't the environment, but the human soul.

"But I’ve never done anything like this before!"

This is the sentence I hear most often. Many people feel hesitant about black and white portraits because they think they might be too serious or "too artistic." But the truth is, this style looks good on everyone. You don't need to be a model, and you don't need to be perfect. In fact, in the world of black and white, "imperfections" become the most fascinating details: laughter lines, freckles, or a furrowed brow. These are the things that make us unique and human. A photoshoot like this is a journey of self-discovery, where you dare to show the side of yourself that you might rarely reveal.

Exclusive Announcement: Water Studio Project & Exhibition

Speaking of emotions and courage, I have an exciting plan that I’d love to involve you in!

Soon, I’ll be launching a very special, exclusive fine art project in a Water Studio, and I’m planning an exhibition from the resulting material.

For this project, I am looking for adventurous women, men, and couples who aren't afraid of a little water. People who don't wait for the rain to stop but dance in it. People who aren't afraid to show their deepest emotions in front of my lens: those who dare to laugh wholeheartedly, sing, kiss passionately, or even cry and scream if that’s what their soul dictates.

This series will be about pure, uninhibited emotions, where the power of water combined with black and white photography helps bring everything hidden within us to the surface.

I’ll be back with the details soon, but until then: get ready! Because we are about to create something truly extraordinary together.

I look forward to the chance of creating lasting memories with you soon!
